New year, new you? I usually go into the year with that motto and everything always seems to stay exactly where it was. The only way to make a change is to…well, make changes in all aspects of life. I want to lead a healthy, exciting, adventurous life and I don’t need anything to bring me down. There are more ways to detox that don’t involve the next juicing fad or whatever else you’re into.
1.Detox your Food
I don’t know about you, but I usually seem to fall off the wagon every holiday season when it comes to food. I can justify eating anything salty, sticky, sweet and yummy between November and January.
The goal of a detox is to rid all of the toxins and negativity out of your body. I say throw out your scales and calorie counters. You can start by filling your diet with nutrient dense food, like more fruits and vegetables! Also by eliminating sugars and complex carbs, your body should reset and feel much better.
You want to clean out your system and kick off the new year on a healthy note? My advice would be to eat this way all year! It’s about balance and moderation but also teaching yourself what your body needs and wants.
Kick sugar and complex carbs to the curb or follow some of these awesome programs to help you on your journey:
2. Detox Your Social Life
Fist things first, is there anyone toxic in your life that makes you want to curl up in a corner and cry? If there is, get rid of them! I can honestly say that this is the most liberating experience in the world and it can be done nicely! Handle it as you would if you were breaking up with sugar; “Listen all of these years have been great, but right now in my life this relationship isn’t what I need. I need some time to get myself to where I need to be. I appreciate you and everything you have done. Thank you for understanding!” There! Simple and to the point.
The truth of the matter is, you need to be selfish! Why be in a time-wasting toxic relationship with anyone? You only have one life, live it toxic free! They’ll get over it perfectly fine, just like you will.
You can also detox your social media! Is there someone that you have never spoken to or have no interest in talking to? DELETE! You want to fill your news feeds with people and things you care about.
You can go through your phone and clean it out! Delete numbers of people you haven’t spoken to in 6 months. Delete that picture that you forgot about and go ahead and delete that app you haven’t touched in weeks! You’ll feel so refreshed to get al of this out of your life!
3. Detox your stuff
Who says you can only do Spring cleaning in the Spring?? Cleaning out my room, closets and cabinets has always been therapeutic to me. I rarely do it, so when I do it’s always refreshing and new!
Clean out your room: Take anything you haven’t worn or looked at in the last 6-12 months and donate it. If you haven’t looked at it until now then you don’t need it! I take 2 large garbage bags and fill one up with garbage (paperwork, broken toys, ect) and one I fill up with clothes, shoes and accessories to donate.
The same goes with beauty products: If you don’t use it, get rid of it. You can sell some unused/ barely used items or donate them to shelters.
If you really want to detox, get rid of any products that use chemicals or words you cannot pronounce….good now that you’ve gotten rid of everything you owned, you can look into some of my favorite products:
Skin Care: Caroline’s Dream
Cleaning supplies/ detergent: Branch Basics
Essential Oils: Young Living
