Wow, what a weekend! I can’t even fathom what happened these past few days. Not only did Health. Happiness, Paleo get released, I have met some of the most inspiring, helpful, amazing people that I can now call my best friends. I have never felt so at home in a crowed of over 3,000 people. I want to share my experience with you in full detail so here goes nothing!
After sitting on a long anxious flight for almost 5 hours wondering what the convention was, who I will meet and what will I eat, we finally landed safely in Austin Texas on Friday around 12:30pm
their time. Since the day had started, I just needed to get my little Paleo booty right to this convention! So my dad and I quickly checked intothe hotel and ran over to catch the first cooking demo I wanted to see, which was Jen over at Predominatly Paleo and Simone over at Zenbelly. They demo their Sweet Potato Latkes; during their presentation they kept the whole audience laughing, it was simply amazing to see my idols in real life.
I, of course had to run up to Jen and fangirl for about 15min straight, I couldn’t handle myself, I needed to tell her how much her blog and information has helped me in my journey…oh and how her motzah ball soup saved my ass during Passover this year! She was so nice and amazing, even offered to take a picture with me. Seriously I was in heaven.Right after that I made sure to stop over by my favorite companies OTTO’S NATURALS- CASSAVA FLOUR and BAREFOOT PROVISIONS. Both of these companies have helped my journey and me so much, not just by having the most perfect flour or any Paleo product you could ever want, but also by being the nicest, most helpful people in the world. Both of thesecompanies took a chance on HEALTH, HAPPINESS, PALEO and offered their time and products. We used OTTOS as the main ingredient in our e-cookbook, we wanted to develop some new recipes with this amazing new flour, and we did just that! We have everything from cookies to flatbreads and many other goodies in-between…. like PALEOMARS.
Barefoot provisions teamed up with us so that we could direct people on where to buy certain products in the e-cookbook. We wanted to make it as easy as possible to get some of the tricky products that you might not be able to find in every grocery store!
Fast forward to dinner, we all went to PICNIK for a free Paleo party. There were SO many people there, I got to meet Charissa from No Cook Paleo, Juli Bauer (Paleomg), and so many other amazing friends who I only knew on Instagram. Of course I fangirled over Juli, she was so kind and was just a real, down to earth person.
Woke up went right over to the convention center to start my day. I saw so many talks and panels about Paleo and Diane’s workshop about growing your business! It was totally inspiring and it made me feel like I was in the right place with my career. When I wasn’t as a talk or workshop, I was walking around sampling ALL of the amazing f
ood products. There was Ghee, tortillas, chips, drinks, chocolate, granola, beef jerky, and every other kind of Paleo snacks you could think of. I really loved seeing the person behind the product, it showed me how much people care about this community and feeding the world clean, healthy food!
I had the chance to talk to some publishers, I became emotional and started to shake when I started talking about my dream, I just couldn’t believe I was standing in front of the people who published all of my favorite cookbooks, it was extremely overwhelming. They both gave me a hug and were so kind, this made me realize that writing cookbooks, owning www.thepaleocavewoman.com and going to school to get my degree is exactly what I want to do in life.
As if the day could
n’t get any better, I met Stacy and Matthew, the Paleo Parents. I fangirled even more then ever, I can’t believe the things I said and how much I embarrassed myself. I handed Stacy MY card…yeah good call Chels, and a “I don’t eat low carb. I eat low CRAP.” Bumper stick…oh AND a promo card for Health, Happiness, Paleo (ANOTHER GOOD CALL CHELS). Stacy laughed at me and said “we are real people too, I would love to take a look at your e-book” and then she handed me her card. I’m such a NERD!
Besides meeting my idols, and walking around, I mostly networked and introduced myself to anyone and everyone before the award show.
Fast forward a few hours I was sitting in a crowd of maybe 40 people waiting for the category “Best New Blog (within the past 18 months)”. I was so nervous, I was nominated with so many other established amazing women in this category, I knew there was no way I was going to win. When I heard them say “and the winner is The Paleo Cavewoman”, I was in shock, I started to cry! WHAT AN HONOR….p.s: my dad jumped up and yelled “HOLY SHIT” at the top of his lungs, talk about embarrassing. I seriously cannot believe I won this amazing award. All of my hard work is paying off, and the best part is; I am in LOVE with doing it. I cannot thank you enough for looking at my blog, you all are the most amazing people in the world!
Ok ok….let’s talk about Sarah, The Paleo Mom. SHE IS THE NICEST, SMARTEST, MOST AMAZING HUMAN ON THIS EARTH! Her and I were the only two award winners that were present at the awards (yes, it wasn’t planned extremely well). Immediately after the ceremony we both got to go up on stage to take pictures ( how could I ever share a stage with Sarah Ballantyne?). She won four awards, even though she sould have won every single one because she is amazing! She took the time to talk to me and we had a real person conversation… SARAH BALLANTYNE CONGRATULATED ME AND HUGGED ME (I’m never showering again). What a night huh?
Last and final day of the convention 🙁
I did one last walk around and sampled everything all over again, because you know, FOOD! I decide to splurge on myself and buy everything at Primal Life Organics booth. Let me just tell you, Trina is probably the most sincere person who just wants to help and educate every one of their skin and life. She was super funny and helpful! As soon as I finished my order, she asked me to film a testimonial and do a review for her. Being put in front to the camera was pretty cool even though I probably looked dumb and my hair was SUPER frizzy (Thanks, humidity!). I learned so much from Trina and I just want to thank her for everything, her and her team are really amazing, inspiring people! I cannot wait to work with them in the future.
In the meantime I stalked down a few people like Anthony from Morrocco Methods, I had to ask him about my hair and the detoxifying phase of the process (I’m impatient haha). He was AMAZING and have me great tips to help the process!
Once the convention was over, my dad and I went to Salty Sow (thank you instagram for showing me that every Paleo person was there and that I had to go). I had the most AMAZING Duck
fat friend friends with eggs on top and shaved Brussels sprouts…seriously the best meal I’ve had in a long time. While I was there I met some pretty cool Paleo people.
There were over 3,000 of us at this convention, and I can honestly say that everyone I talked to was SO nice and welcoming. I have never felt so at home with these people. Most people I only knew via Instagram and it was great to put a face to the name. I talked to the most inspiring people like Paleobosslady, who just helped me realize why I’m here and why I am apart of this amazing community.
I can’t take things for granted; this was the most amazing weekend of my life! Thank you so much for this honor, iIstill cannot believe it. I cannot wait for what the future holds for me!
Until next year,
